Dish Network Screwed me

So, I was subscribed to Dish Network about 4 months ago. I had signed on to a 24 month agreement. I recently moved into a new condo with my wife and had requested to have my service moved to the new location. The technician arrived only to find out that our new association did not allow any dish to be mounted on the building or anywhere on the property. The technician then mentioned that the situation should probably nullify the contract if I wanted to cancel because I could no longer use Dish Network's service. He was wrong.

I called up dish network's customer service line in order to have my service cancelled. The gentleman on the line was very friendly and he was helpful in cancelling my Dish subscription. That is, until he mentioned the cancellation fee of over $330! I wanted to make sure we heard each other correctly, so I said, you do realize that I just moved and I CANNOT USE your service anymore? It is impossible for me to use their service, plain and simple. So I asked them why I should continue paying for their service when I am not receiving the service.

The service rep's response was "I understand where you are coming from, but You CHOSE to move." Excuse me? I chose to move to a place where I had no idea that dishes were not allowed. But plain and simple, you are taking my money from me, and giving me nothing in return. I am paying for service, and if I am not receiving my satellite TV then I shouldn't have to pay. I entered into a 2 year agreement on the premise that I would be paying for TV service. Now I have to pay for what? for a box that is not connected to a dish that does not provide me with any use whatsoever? Apparently Dish Network expects us to plan our lives around their (poor) service.

I refuse to donate to the dish network cause. They are NOT a charitable organization, and they are NOT particularly savvy in the customer service department. The only leverage they have in the market is FORCING their customers to remain customers because it is too expensive to quit.

Now granted, I work in a membership based business, and we do utilize contracts. However, when a customer is no longer able to utilize my service due to money, relocation, health, etc we do not charge them an obscene amount of money. We wish them well and send them on their way, hoping that they will come back as loyal customers some day.

I don't strong arm them and say, I'm going to charge your account for this ridiculous amount of money because my satellite dish is to ugly and unsightly to be allowed on your property. Dish Network, for all the press you do about all the channels you invest in, try investing in a little customer service.

Well, I learned my lesson, ask plenty of questions, read the contract throughly, and don't EVER use Dish Network. Thank you very little, fuck you very much, burn in hellfire. I'm going with U-Verse and I'll never touch Dish Network Again.
